Since launching in Mexico, the Integrity Icon campaign has celebrated public servants who uphold integrity, transparency, and ethical leadership. By focusing on key themes each year, the campaign highlights individuals making a tangible impact in their communities.
PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS
Sustainability in Action – In its third edition, Integrity Icon Sustainability 2024 recognized public servants leading efforts in sustainable development, responsible resource management, and inclusive policy-making. Their work ensures a better future without compromising opportunities for future generations.
Youth Leading Change – Integrity Icon Youth 2024 honored young leaders who are driving social transformation through integrity and accountability. Their dedication demonstrated the power of ethical leadership in shaping a more just and transparent society.
By aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Integrity Icon Mexico 2024 reinforced the importance of ethical public service in building a sustainable and inclusive future.
VOICE2REP MEXICO
Voice2Rep Mexico is a transformative initiative that uses music to amplify the voices of marginalized women in prison and advocate for gender justice and accountability in the justice system. Through songwriting, storytelling, and advocacy, the project fosters self-expression, highlights underrepresented perspectives, and builds partnerships to address systemic inequalities. By combining music, storytelling, and advocacy, Voice2Rep Mexico sparks crucial conversations around human rights, gender justice, and social accountability, ensuring the voices of marginalized individuals contribute to meaningful reform.
PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS
Creative Advocacy – Engaging 300 participants across three penitentiary centers, our workshops provided a platform for self-expression through music. Twenty individuals, including artists like Leiden Gomis Fernández and María Rodríguez, wrote and recorded original songs, using music to spotlight gender justice and accountability.
Active Involvement – Three participants took charge of their legal cases, with one becoming a key advocate for gender justice. This individual worked alongside legal organizations to address gaps in gender-sensitive legal processes and push for systemic change.
Institutional Change – The activism of Dolores de León played a significant role in establishing an advocacy network in Nuevo León, reinforcing the importance of public defenders like Susana Montañes in addressing gender-based justice issues. The Integrity Icon campaign became a key part of this work, focusing on the role of legal professionals in advancing gender-responsive practices.
Building Networks – By collaborating with government institutions, civil society organizations, and human rights advocates, Voice2Rep Mexico strengthened support for incarcerated women and championed gender-sensitive legal reforms.
Sustained Impact – This initiative proved that storytelling and creative advocacy can drive institutional change. The next step? A pilot training program for justice officials, focused on closing gender-based legal gaps and fostering long-term reform.
Album Release – The program’s impact culminated in the release of Volver Al Corazón, a powerful musical project highlighting gender justice. Led by Leiden, with contributions from Dolores de León, María Rodríguez, and others, the album gives voice to those advocating for change through music.
